Today, we extend a farewell to Denise Holloway, who has served over 20 years at Wesleyan College as the administrative assistant to four successive presidents -- Nora Kizer Bell, Ruth Austin Knox, Vivia L. Fowler, and Meaghan Blight.
Denise came to Wesleyan in 1998 and has left a lasting impression on many faculty, staff, students, alumnae, trustees, and many others she met along the way.
During its annual meeting in April, the Wesleyan College Alumnae Association welcomed Denise Welch Holloway as an honorary alumna, a rare honor extended to only a dozen other recipients in the College’s long history.
“The Wesleyan Way”
In her introduction of Denise, former President Ruth Knox said,
“Her work ethic is legendary – she does whatever is necessary to ensure that everything goes off without a hitch. She welcomes guests with warm hospitality; produces magic with flowers and creative tablescapes; solves problems with her soothing, calm manner; decorates rooms and entire buildings; and generally sets the standard for excellence in everything she does. That Wesleyan Way we talk about – with style, grace, attention to every detail, and understated elegance? That’s really 25 years of Denise’s Way.”
“True, faithful, and loyal”
From coordinating events and floral arrangements, to assisting in the refurbishment of multiple campus buildings and staples, and welcoming dignitaries and celebrities to campus, Denise Holloway has truly done it all. With each task or challenge that has presented itself, Denise has handled it with grace, style, and diplomacy. Serving all college presidents with dedication and perseverance, Denise is considered by many to be the perfect embodiment of a “Wesleyan Woman.”
“Denise has made so many contributions to the Wesleyan community, and we are grateful for all she has done for our institution. As she moves on to new adventures, we know that she will continue to make a positive impact on anyone who has the pleasure of meeting her.” -President Meaghan Blight
The Wesleyan College community thanks Denise for her years of service and dedication to this institution.
