Wesleyan Equestrian Excels in South Carolina

GREENWOOD, S.C.

The Wesleyan College Equestrian Team demonstrated their exceptional talent and dedication at the IHSA competition hosted by Clemson and Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina, on November 9-10, marking an impressive start to the 2024-2025 IHSA show season. The team’s hard work and preparation paid off as returning riders delivered standout performances, surpassing their achievements from previous seasons, while both new and seasoned team members showed significant progress throughout the weekend.

Notably, Nieve Leyne and Lilly Boyer achieved remarkable milestones, earning enough points to qualify for regionals and advance to higher divisions—Nieve in Limit Over Fences and Lilly in Introductory—on the very first day of competition. Freshmen Julia Lund, Ginger Harrison, Sunny Iskra, and sophomore Taylor Erlewine made a memorable debut in the IHSA, securing several top-five finishes in highly competitive classes with more than seven riders.

Senior Whitney McKinley added to the team’s accolades with multiple top-five finishes, reflecting her years of experience and determination. Fellow senior Olivia Troyer reached a personal best, earning an impressive 2nd place in the Novice division on Saturday against fierce competition.

The weekend’s highlight came on Sunday when Lilly Boyer, newly promoted to the Novice division, clinched 1st place in a competitive class of eight riders—an extraordinary accomplishment for her debut in this division. Her unwavering dedication and exceptional performance earned her the well-deserved title of Team MVP for the weekend.

The Wesleyan College Equestrian Team continues to set a high standard of excellence and camaraderie, and their success at this competition reflects their commitment to growth, teamwork, and competitive achievement.
