Wesleyan Equestrian will kick off their Schooling Show Series on February 8, 2020, at the Nancy Ellis Knox Equestrian Center on the College’s campus. Riders of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate. Registration is now open and entries will be accepted until 5:00pm on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. On show day, warm up begins at 7:00am and the first class starts at 8:30am. A $10.00 registration fee is required prior to the start of the show.
Wesleyan will host a total of four schooling shows over the course of the year, culminating with high point awards for both riders and horses at the end of season. To qualify for the high point award, the rider must sign up before the start of the show, be entered in three of the four shows, and, regardless of the horse they are riding, remain in the same division throughout. The same requirements apply for horses, regardless of the division or the rider.
A schooling show is one where the competition is geared towards entry-level riders and horses in preparation for more serious showings. According to Head Equestrian Coach Catherine Baker, “Schooling shows are the first step in the process of showing on a larger scale. They offer a relaxing, low-key environment for young horses and beginning riders of any age. Participants are judged on the same things as a more advanced show without having to spend a lot of money or traveling a long distance.” Classes will include hunter, where the horse is judged; equitation, where the rider is judged; and western horsemanship. The price for each class is $10.00.
