Forever Committed to Creating a Culture of CARE at Wesleyan

Wesleyan is nationally recognized as a diverse and inclusive campus that believes part of our strength as a community comes from recognizing and celebrating the many ways we can learn from and with one another. To celebrate and practice our commitment to being an inclusive and connected community, the department of student affairs and the Diversity and Inclusion Board of Students created a new Culture of CARE Initiative. CARE stands for Community, Accountability, Respect, and Engagement.

"Total CARE involves being mindful and considerate of your own thoughts, behaviors, emotions, physical body, beliefs, and values, and your overall well-being," said Assistant Dean for Equity & Inclusion Tonya Parker ’01.

The CARE Initiative kicked-off with a week's worth of engaging events for students, faculty, and staff to pause and reflect on their roles within the campus community. The week started with a self-care check-in followed by a bystander intervention workshop, servant leader training, and a fitness expo sponsored by Wesleyan's Mathews Athletic Center. Community partners including Macon Mayhem, Hayiya Dance Studio, Middle GA Derby Demons, and Ocmulgee Outdoor Expeditions joined in.

The online behavioral health program SilverCloud Health is now available to Wesleyan students at no cost. It offers a variety of online therapy programs to promote and support positive behavior change and overall mental wellness. Students can sign up anonymously to use SilverCloud’s online library that includes programs addressing depression, anxiety, and stress.

About Wesleyan College

Wesleyan draws a wonderfully eclectic mix of women – about 700 in all – from across the United States and more than twenty countries, bringing to campus a multitude of backgrounds and ethnicities. Wesleyan students choose to study here because they want to test their limits. The bar is set high because our students demand it. First for Women isn’t just a claim to fame - it’s a philosophy that explains why Wesleyan women continue to make history today.  Read More
