Wesleyan's Denise Welch Holloway honored with Cherry Blossom Festival Volunteer of the Year Awar

Denise Welch Holloway was honored with the International Cherry Blossom Festival Lee Robinson Volunteer of the Year Award during the Cherry Blossom Bollywood Ball, Saturday, March 23, 2019. Denise has served as assistant to three Wesleyan College presidents since her hire in 1998.

According to Stacy Moore, president and CEO of Macon’s International Cherry Blossom Festival, “Denise has volunteered at Cherry Blossom events for the past 20 years. She always goes above and beyond to assure the success of events like the grand finale, lantern lighting, opening ceremonies, pageants, and so much more. We are honored to present Denise with the Lee Robinson Award.”

Lee Robinson (September 24, 1943 – November 4, 2015) was a tireless advocate for and supporter of many community organizations that work to improve Macon-Bibb County, including the Cherry Blossom Festival, Macon Jaycees, Rotary Club, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful, Middle Georgia Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association, and others. A lifelong public servant, Robinson served as Macon’s mayor 1987 – 1991, and four terms as a State Senator from Georgia.

Holloway said, “I have enjoyed volunteering with the Festival since March of 1999, but there are so many dedicated volunteers with whom I share this award. Each year Wesleyan students, staff, and faculty volunteer at events held both on campus and off. It takes a lot of hardworking, dedicated people. I’m just here to help make sure it all comes together.”
